Sir Ken Robinson at TED: Do Schools Kill Creativity?

As an internationally recognized leader in the development of innovation, creativity, and human resources, the late Sir Ken Robinson worked with some of the world's leading cultural organizations.

While we never had the privilege of working with Sir Ken Robinson during his lifetime, it's no secret how inspiring his work has been to us at Twenty One Toys. His classic TED Talk, "Do Schools Kill Creativity?" served as the inspiration that emboldened our founder Ilana Ben-Ari to start a company in pursuit of Sir Ken's dream to "bring on the learning revolution!"

Here's the video and a few of our favourite quotes from that 2006 TED talk wherein Sir Ken makes a case for revolutionizing the education system in pursuit of cultivating – rather than sabotaging – creativity in students.

"We are educating people out of their creative capacities… I believe this passionately, that we don't grow into creativity, we grow out of it. Or rather, we get educated out of it."

– Sir Ken Robinson, Educationalist

“We can't predict the future. We don't know what will happen in the next 5 years. We need to educate our children for unpredictability.”

– Sir Ken Robinson, Educationalist

“If you're not prepared to be wrong, you'll never come up with anything original.”

– Sir Ken Robinson, Educationalist

“We stigmatize mistakes in school, mistakes are the worst thing you can make. We are educating our kids out of their creative capacities.”

– Sir Ken Robinson, Educationalist
